Memphis sits on a bluff above the widest river in the country and has never once tried to be anything other than itself. Beale Street still runs blues out of open doors every night of the week. The Hernando de Soto Bridge throws a lit-up M across the Mississippi to Arkansas, and Big River Crossing lets you walk across the water on the old Harahan rail bridge. Overton Park holds a real old-growth forest in the middle of the city, Shelby Farms is bigger than Central Park several times over, and the ribs come dry-rubbed unless you ask, and you should not ask.
