Aspen sits at 7,908 feet at the top of the Roaring Fork Valley, a silver town from 1880 that became the most famous ski address in America without losing its Victorian brick core. The Maroon Bells are twenty minutes away and photographed more than any other peaks in Colorado, Independence Pass opens every Memorial Day weekend like a town holiday, and locals still call Aspen Mountain by its old name, Ajax.
