Santa Fe, New Mexico

Santa Fe has been a capital since 1610, which makes it the oldest in the country by a wide margin, and it has spent the four centuries since refusing to look like anywhere else. The Plaza is still the center of everything. The Palace of the Governors still runs along its north side with Native artists selling under the portal, Canyon Road climbs east past a hundred galleries in adobe, and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains turn blood red at sunset, which is how they got the name. The first question at any counter is red or green, and the correct answer is Christmas. On Christmas Eve the whole town walks Canyon Road by farolito light with piñon smoke in the air.

Our Santa Fe collection is drawn from that night. The crewneck carries a row of farolitos along an adobe wall under a crescent moon, in clay, cream and turquoise, with the city name set in a wide, hand-cut serif. The tee is lighter, Santa Fe over the 1610 line with a single moon and a chile ristra, made for a September morning at the Railyard market and a cold walk across the Plaza in December. The mug and sticker share the farolito artwork.
