Whitefish began as a railroad camp called Stumptown, named for the stumps left behind when the Great Northern cut the forest to lay track in 1904. The depot is still there and the train still stops twice a day. The lake sits at the edge of downtown with City Beach at its foot, Central Avenue runs four blocks of brick and neon, and the Big Mountain stands behind it all. In January the summit trees freeze into snow ghosts, rime-coated shapes that look like a crowd waiting in fog. In August the lake is warm enough to swim and the huckleberries are ripe on every trail. Glacier National Park is half an hour up the road.

Our Whitefish collection comes from a January morning on the Big Mountain. The crewneck carries a row of snow ghosts in deep spruce and frost with the lake below and the town name beneath, a design that looks like winter even in July. The tee is lighter, Whitefish set in a railroad-era slab with the 1905 founding year and a single pine, built for the Whitefish Trail and evenings on Central Avenue. The mug and sticker share the snow ghost artwork.

Everything is original and printed to order in the USA. It is for the Flathead locals, the summer lake families, the people who ride the train in from Seattle and Chicago every winter, and anyone who has ever stood among the snow ghosts and felt a long way from everything.

Whitefish apparel FAQ

Are these official Whitefish Mountain Resort designs?+

No. All artwork here is original, made by independent designers. We are not affiliated with Whitefish Mountain Resort, Glacier National Park, or the City of Whitefish.

How does the snow ghost print hold up?+

It is printed with water-based inks that bond with the fabric rather than sitting on top, so it stays soft and does not crack. Wash inside out in cold water and skip the high-heat dryer to keep it sharp.

How long does shipping to Montana take?+

Orders print in 2 to 5 business days and ship with tracking. Delivery to the Flathead Valley usually takes 3 to 6 business days after dispatch, so plan on about two weeks total.
