The Hamptons is a string of farm fields and beach villages along the South Fork of Long Island, and the people who go every summer just say they are heading out east. Main Beach in East Hampton and Coopers Beach in Southampton land on best-beach lists almost every year. In between you have Sagaponack potato fields turned into hedgerows, the Hook Windmill at the top of East Hampton's Main Street, the old whaling wharf at Sag Harbor, and farm stands on Montauk Highway selling corn and tomatoes on the honor system.
