Kennebunkport, Maine

Kennebunkport is the Maine coast village that looks like the postcard and acts like a fishing town. Dock Square sits at the bridge over the Kennebunk River with its clapboard shops and the lobster-roll shack on the water. Ocean Avenue curls out past the sea captains' houses to Walker's Point, Spouting Rock and Blowing Cave, where the surf fires up through the ledge at the right tide. Cape Porpoise, the working harbor on the other side of town, still sends boats out before dawn under Goat Island Light. And in December the whole place strings white lights for ten days and calls it Prelude.
