Maui is two volcanoes joined by a low isthmus of sugarcane fields turned to grass, which is why they call it the Valley Isle. Haleakalā rises 10,023 feet on the east side, and people drive up in the dark to watch the sun come over a crater the size of a city, then wear every layer they own because it is 40 degrees at the summit. Down the slope is upcountry, where Kula is cool enough for jacaranda trees and ranch fences, and below that is the north shore, where Hoʻokipa throws some of the biggest surf on the island and Pāʻia keeps its plantation-town storefronts. The Road to Hāna takes all day and is worth it. From January to March the humpbacks are so close to Kaʻanapali you can see the breach from the sand.

Our Maui collection is drawn from whale season. The crewneck carries a humpback and calf under a Haleakalā silhouette in deep teal, cream and mango gold, with the island name in a relaxed rounded serif beneath. The tee is lighter, Maui over the 1905 county line with a single whale tail, made for a cool Kula morning and a pau hana drink after. The mug and sticker share the whale artwork.
