Pittsburgh reveals itself all at once when you come out of the Fort Pitt Tunnel: three rivers, a few hundred bridges, and a skyline wedged onto a triangle of land where the Allegheny and Monongahela meet to form the Ohio. The Duquesne Incline has hauled people up Mount Washington since 1877, the Strip District still sells fish, biscotti and pierogies out of the same brick warehouses, and Phipps Conservatory has grown orchids under glass in Schenley Park since 1893. Locals say yinz and n'at without irony, redd up the house before company, and will tell you dahntahn is a perfectly good way to pronounce it.
